If you turn on the options Final Showing Markup or Original Showing Markup in the Tracking group, tracked changes will also display in the compared document. All differences in the revised document will become tracked changes in the compared document. If the Reviewing Pane option is turned on, the Reviewing pane will also display. When you identify the two documents in the Compare Documents dialog box, you can also be specific about what you want to compare and how you want to show those changes. For example, you can choose the content in the document that you want to compare, or you may decide to compare only formatting. By default, Word compares all elements in the document, but you can turn off some of those options if you desire. The package management and update tools on the various distributions are powerful and perform a variety of functions that do not have any security implications. I will focus on those aspects of updating and package management on your system that do have security implications, such as verifying the integrity of a package or securely downloading an update.

When you download packages and files from the Internet or install from CD/DVDs, a risk exists that you are getting more than you bargained for. You have no guarantee that the file you have downloaded contains the contents it claims to hold. The file or some of its contents could have been replaced, altered, or intercepted and modified during transmission. You can mitigate the risk of this by using integrity checking to validate the contents and the file. You will learn about three methods of determining the integrity of packages you have downloaded from the Internet. The first and second methods use the md5sum and sha1sum commands to validate a checksum to confirm the integrity of a package. The third uses the gpg application, part of the GPG package, to verify a digital signature file that you would also download with the package you want to verify.7
